Do you want to know how "generic slop isekai" this is? Lets Count!

1. The guy doesn't have a death scene. No truck-kun no nothing, just oops you dead lets isekai.

2. MC's design is dark or brown hair with blue eyes. Never seen that before.

3. Nothing has a name. He just shouts normal words like fly or clean and magic happens. Oh and he always lucks into the exact word he needs for that particular spell. Convenient.

4. The I want to live a quiet life but the plot ... made me trope. Zero motivation, zero goals, zero personality. The plot has to force him along for something to happen.

5. This character literally stumbles on mithril in episode 1, a dragon in episode 2. Because why struggle or try for anything am I right...

6. Random shopkeepers acting like the city bank with a bottomless pit of cash. Make's it easy!!!!

7. Mascot "cute" animal for merchandise opportunities. check.


Normally I'd label this as mid but this show is actually pretty bad. Most shows at least try something be it a twist or to use the formula to tell it's own story. This one... nothing. There is no story, no plot, no characters, no flashy art, no anything. How is it possible to make a dragon encounter boring?!

Art and animation are decent but the show is so dull nothing can save it. Skip!

Another "I got Isekaied into an Otome game as the villainess"... is what I would say but this time it's actually good.

The twist here is that the MC got Isekaied into her own fanfiction from middle-school. Thing is Tokyo traffic is hell and truck-kun was late by... say 10-15 years. Basically she was a working adult by then and all of this was so far behind her it might as well have been written by someone else. Also while her perfect Mary Sue self insert is the heroine of the tale she got incarnated as the villainess, not the Mary Sue.

TL'DR = Fun show ... and unironically a good watch.


PLOT & STORY = 8.5/10

Plot is generic, every "chapter" is a fantasy trope meant to play out with her self insert heroine at the center. HOWEVER while that's the plot, it's not the story. The actual tale is to subvert said plot before someone gets hurt. So you are getting two tales each arch, the generic and the subversion.

This is actually the show's strong point. Events and people's wellbeing is given weight. They are not NPCs, they are not characters in a game. They're people and they matter, the MC is not in her own bubble isolated from the events as (the player). That alone sets this show apart from the mountain of isekai slop getting shoveled out each season.

Also I will mention the sense of humor the show has is rather unique and REALLY adds to it!

It got an extra half point for NOT doing the (prince breaks the engagement with the villainess in favor of generic heroine) in the first episode.


CHARACTERS = 7/10

Iana, the isekaied soul, is our main character. Her personality is just pure fun, an adult that's forced to live through her own middle school fanfic... and cringe at herself! That's just hilarious. It's surprising how well written her character is. She was a little twirp as a kid but now clearly an adult, instead of regressing she just moves forward and acts the part of an adult. Aka taking responsibility for her mess and making sure nobody gets hurt. You don't see that often with these wish fulfillment shows.

Outside of Iana the side characters are tropes in their purest form, the humor endears them and while the shift of their interest from Mary Sue to Iana is slow, often hidden, it's always fun to watch. Sol especially, the Ice prince butler, is loads of fun.


ART & ANIMATION = 6/10

Nothing extreme here. Art and animation are just ok. While there are points where the art dips a little (character side views, very noticeable during the ball episode) The show does maintain general quality throughout the season. Animation matches the show's energy especially during the flashbacks when Iana is cringing at her past self.

SOUND = 8/10

The voice acting in this one is great. The subs are good but the Dub here is 11/10. Iana's english voice actress, Kelsey Cruz, went above and beyond. I'd recommend the Dub in this one just for her performance. They also inserted a few jokes just for english viewers that really work (They actually say the words snicker snicker or giggle giggle instead of just doing it. I'm not sure why that's funnier but it is.) OP/ED is a bit lackluster sadly.


FUN FACTOR = 11/10

Yeah this was fun. The humor works, the jokes land, the Dub is fantastic. They make full use of the generic characters and plot lines as starting lines for the actual story so it makes it fresh again. The main character is so self deprecating that you just can't help but laugh at her antics.


OVERALL = 8/10

It takes a generic story and makes is fun again. The humor and self awareness here does not take away from the weight of the events which is rare in this genre. I recommend it for a light hearted watch.

Overlord came out in 2015, A pure power fantasy where an OP skeleton went around the world disguised as a knight in armour.

And the show opens with an attempted rape scene.... expectations set in the sub basement level I see...

Ok but lets give it a chance, it'll get bet... and another attempt rape, and another, and WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING EVERY TIME A WOMAN IS ON SCREEN!

I'm tired, this show actually made me feel tired.

Every character here is defined by what's in their pants and nothing else. Every man a rapist, every woman a potential ... victim.

Our MC is a dunce and his one function is to save the poor damsels in distress. Very passive and frankly aimless so following him isn't even fun.

It's cheap, the "heroism" is unearned, it's ugly and unpleasant.

If you're going to rip off a 7 year old series, do it properly at the very least.

Sad part is art and animation are pretty good, better than some more deserving shows. What a waste of yen! Skip!

This went in a different direction than advertised.

From the title my first thought was this is the now generic MC got kicked out of a party only to realize he was the one carrying them all along and those bullies in middle school just didn't appreciate how super awesome special he was.

So... it did start like that. Only instead of a middle schooler it's more a salaryman working in a black company where he has to bear the weight of every little thing and none of the benefits. He then moves on to a normal company where his coworkers are far more supportive ... and the psychological tactics used to break you down and bully you in a negative work environment aren't used (but he's still healing so is low-key expecting them.)

Just imagine that disguised under a paper thin fantasy layer and you have this show.

Had this show been honest and went with the base premise it would have done far better. The fact is the fantasy elements are used to disguise it and as such the show has no foundations. No rules, limitations or world building. Just a "oh by the way" exposition vomit every now and then when the plot needs something... usually applies for the next episode or two only and forgotten afterwards.

Because this is an allegory for a very specific situation with a lot of tropes from the genre just hastily thrown together in order to tell said story. Even the 2nd villain made no sense other than a plot device to achieve the the moral of the tale "Supportive coworkers = good"... and friendship is magic???


Plot is lame, world building none existent.

Characters are very "oh by the way" so nothing solid, they are there to support MC-kun and that's it.

MC-kun is bland, lacks any motivation, drive or personality. AKA pretty boring. The story is always about something happening to him instead of because of him. Very passive.

Art and animation passable though they did cheap out on the later half of the show.

Overall:

It focused too much on the allegory part and forgot it was a fantasy show. That to impress someone with your MC being super special you need to show the baseline for comparison first.
At first i didn't think it was a bad show but the lack of proper world building or story kept getting worse and worse adding to the show's problems. Also I'm removing a star for the name of the group, Lasting Period. It just made me think of never ending stomach cramps. What a stupid name!

Cliff notes, the anime.

So it took me awhile to understand this show. See the first few episodes were ok, they speedrun the developmental arc and forcefully highlight the important people the MC interacts with.

Those were the best of the show. Now that our MC is officially OP status lets move him to Noobsville where he looks really OP in comparison. Also lets speedrun that as well as, and this is in the show's own words, a fantasy staple trope. AKA generic.

Art and animation take a hit after the first three episodes but the real drop is after episode 8. They were really front ... loading this anime.

I actually got confused a few times because of this cliffnotes style, the show itself thinks this is generic so just shows you highlights before moving on so you feel like you missed something.

At first i was going to label this as mixed feelings since there really is nothing major wrong with it... but then I thought of anything good or who might like this and the only answer was, no the show itself thought it was generic and decided it wasn't worth bothering putting the full story on screen.

I hate to say this but this wasn't an anime, it was an ad for the novel/manga. I don't recommend it.

Season 2 stands on firmer grounds.

The characters all established and the show shifts to be more episodic in nature with a few running gags.

The storylines are a bit... chaotic? Like the only reason any of it is happening is to set up a joke. Logic, basic survival instinct, a normal human reaction? What's that?!

The show is REALLY dumbed down this season and our MC no longer has the survival instinct of a doodoo bird. Maybe the brain of one though lol.

The stupid is questionable. Like, if you see a dragon in the pool why would you get in?! Don't get me started ... on the princess that dresses up as a maid for literally one scene just so the joke can happen. Never explained!

However, I will admit, the stupid fun and episodic nature made for and a good watch. I recommend it for some silliness so long as you don't look at the story too closely.

Dungeon Meshi, shoujo edition.

The premise is simple. Girl is Laios from Dungeon Meshi, aka monsters yummy me want eat! She meets a boy, who is your typical shoujo prince, custom made to love the exact thing she's good at.

And.... actually that's it. They just love bomb each other as he takes her home and introduces her as his fiancée.

There is nothing wrong with the show. It's a pure shoujo that centers around the couple being lovey dovey.

It does fail on two accounts however.

1. The monster designs are boring and generic. They are purposely made to look like the bigger and uglier ... version of normal animals. Understandable for a cutesy show but still very boring and doesn't sell the fact that eating them is looked down upon when they don't really look like monsters.

2. Cooking part is minimal. How do we cook monster meat? Oh we add some pepper and BBQ it. How do we cook monster fish? Flour and oil for some deep fried fish balls obviously. No herbs no special preparations or technique to bring out the flavor. Just the absolute basic, flavorless dishes. So much so that the secret to make the characters break in sparkles is, and you'll never guess this one, is to squeeze some lemon or a dash of salt on the dish. Genius...

Because of this I'm removing a star. A cooking show with no real cooking is boring. The couples love bombing each other on first sight is boring. the artificial obstacles the show places in their way aren't really believable.

In otherwords, while there is nothing wrong with the show there is nothing interesting either to keep you invested. I can see it appealing to a young age group though because of the blatant love bombing and nice art but that's about it.

In a genre full of OP main characters that battle lv 1s it's not a bad idea to reverse the trope. Have the weakest character possible be the leader and surround him with OPs in world where even a magical puppy could cuddle him to death, literally.


If you've heard about the show "Eminence in Shadow" then this is the kind of character that MC is aspiring to be.

The mysterious guy manipulating events behind the scenes. Who is operating on a level far beyond the comprehension of mere pawns. MWHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Well, that's the image anyway. The whole joke of the show is that it's all ... a bluff and the MC either lucks into these situations or the characters twist his words around to fit the narrative.

Premise is 10/10
Execution though is more like a 6/10.

Watching someone with zero motivation, skills or urgency is not fun. I don't mind that he has no OP powers but he needs some goal ....or personality. It's boring to watch someone simply get everything handed to him on a silver plate. To see those that worked for their position bend the knee to someone that's put in no effort.

Entertaining premise, good art and animation, questionable staying power. I've already forgotten the MC's name.

When I watched the trailer for this one my thought was (oh, temu Overlord. Now with boobs).

In a sense that's a good summery for this show BUT it doesn't give it due credit for the world building.

A lot of thought was put into the world and how the magic system works, how cause and effect would shape this specific game world after 200 years of the story's initial in-game events. I do like that, it's far more effort than is put into your regular isekai'd world or it's characters.

As the season progressed however one major issue came up and pretty much dragged ... the show down to med-level. Hell it even caused it to dip into bad a few times.

Temu Aqua if you will, MCobeauty Useless Goddess if you won't.

Her design gives her away so I think everyone knows the twist behind this character. I'm fine with that part HOWEVER she's annoying.

I get it, I get that she starts out as a tutorial and then as a "hidden" twist. But the MC, and by extension the entire show, is nothing but a remote control doll that she's operating. Go left, MC goes left and wastes some time which is now the next few episodes. Go right, MC goes right and now that's the new adventure.

It makes sense at the very start of the show because of who she really is but for an entire season? Watching a brainless puppet isn't fun and the MC not having his/her own sense of urgency is a problem.

Because of these negatives I have mixed feelings regarding this show. I'm ok with slow burns but this one ends without establishing literally anything about itself. A bad sign.

So... that was disappointing.

Season 1 was a lot of fun and had me cackling. This one was pretty bad and humor is no longer in the room with us.

They managed to cram in multiple storylines in 12 episodes which is impressive. Sad part is, unlike season 1 where this lead to progression, here it meant nothing.

The world and characters are stagnant this season. Everyone dumb as rocks, one note and repeating the same lame joke at least 5 times in a row. Someone clearly thought more is better also applies to the rule of three!

The first 5 episodes were the worst and ... I almost gave up on the show, especially when they designated Delta as the fan service. Making the clearly "simple" character that is just beyond icky. It's far to blatant this season as well and shows you the drop in quality.

Lets be real here. Season 1 played it off as a parody and laughed at the edge lord power fantasy.
This season forgot it was a parody and played it straight. It was clearly written as a parody and you can see it peaking out sometimes in the writing but the anime decided to focus on all the wrong things.

Overall this one was painful, cringy and boring. I genuinely couldn't follow the second story (economics lesson) because I didn't understand anyone's motivation for any of it! Literally that entire storyline had one goal, for the girls to renounce the men in their lives (brother / husband / Ex and so on) and pick Cid over them.


I was going to label this as mixed feelings at first but the more I thought about it, the more that was because of the goodwill season 1 left behind. This season was pretty bad, I can't think of a single person I would want to inflect this on!
