It was indeed. Tsukune being saved every time got old fast too. I don't mind the male MC being the "damsel in distress" but it shouldn't be overused regardless of the gender.

Yes. He was hyped up to be the BBEG but he was neither charismatic nor entertaining. Basically the "evil for the sake of being evil" type of villain. And Ikoma, while being superhuman was sometimes beaten really easily. Granted, his opponents had more combat experience but it was still embarrassing.

I agree. Do yourself a favor and don't watch Berserk (2016). I haven't watched it myself but it's infamous. Both are classics.

Indeed. Have you watched Independence Day 2?

Shyamalan's movies are hit and miss, Signs belonging in the latter category for me. There's the "the aliens are demons" fan theory buy the aliens were just stupid in my opinion. Going to a planet that is mostly covered by what harms you, it rains from the sky and the dominant species is mostly made of it without protective gear but naked is careless to say the least. And arguing that the aliens were of a lower caste and expendable or just a reconnaissance party doesn't work in that regard either. I mean, you wouldn't send people to Mars without spacesuits even and especially if we wouldn't know what the surface is like.

He's good at movies like War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones but also movies like Schindler's List. And he later admitted that he made mistakes with Close Encounters of the Third Kind after he became a father himself.

Alien vs Predator 2. You're right about the plot and setting. Just like they wiped out Raccoon City in Resident Evil. Revisiting Raccoon City in Resident Evil Requiem was such a blast from the past. When I watched the trailer back then, I was like, we're going back to where it all started and it gave me goosebumps too.

Speaking of movies, I've recently watched The Odyssey and The End of Oak Street. This month I'm going to watch Resident Evil and The Death of Robin Hood.

The adaptation change in Rosario to Vampire from manga was an absolute no-no, i did not even know what i was looking at, at all...

Ohh both the MC and villain were pet peeves to you? That was an original work according to the discussion forum I was on back then - it no longer exists~
The art for it kind of fitted the supposedly ancient side of the settings while also fitting the mechanical design. Gave off a nice combination of the old hand-drawn type. Though the only old type anime I am talking about is Berserk, and also managed to see just a quick glance of "Cowboy Bebop" courtesy of some users who used something from there as their avatar

Ohhh I think that scene was also something like a rallying speech in the face of overwhelming odds!

ahh no wonder i understood nothing of Mars Attacks. The other one supposedly what I watched was "Signs" which involved otherworldly visitors to our planet~~i cannot remember much of it already though.

I guess Spielberg is still better at tonnes of explosion scenes like in Transformers movies - t least that is what little i remember from those.
The only hostile alien lifeform i watched in movies...i think you will absolutely nail it - is the one where the military sends a tactical nuke to wipe out the very same city in which a Predator and Alien were duking it out in after the aliens had wiped out a hospital on Earth. Set in the US if i did not remember wrongly~

Usually, yes. Changes are inevitable and alright. As long as it isn't like the Rosario + Vampire anime, the manga is among my favorites but the anime adaptation was a mess, especially during the second season. And it's a red flag when someone from the staff says "we want to tell our own story". I'm aware that studios usually don't choose what to make but if you want to tell your own story, don't choose an existing work but an original script instead.

If you're referring to the main villain, he was rather disappointing. That and Ikoma sometimes being infuriating were my two pet peeves with the anime. Yes, the art, mechanical design and character design are great. Two of the movies are summaries and I always skip those.

Cool. I've watched it at the cinema twice back then, the speech of Bill Pullman as US president was a moment which gave me goosebumps. It's pathos but pathos done right.

Well, Mars Attacks was a satirical parody of Independence Day and alien invasion movies in general. I didn't particularly like it either.

The irony of Close Encounters of the Third Kind was, while Spielberg intended to show a positive first contact, the aliens were actually awful and somehow worse than openly hostile aliens.

@TheBigGuy

Are you usually able to accept the variations made to adaptations from the source material? Thus far in general I think it is a pretty mixed bag unless the variation is too great since different individuals have different preferences.

Hey it is actually okay to be at where the series left off - in fact I think while there could be spots where more could have been shown, i liked how they drummed up the mystery behind that guy on the other train. In my opinion I think the art was amazing when it aired - I could not help but look forward to the next episode whenever one ended. I hope that you will like the OVA movies - according to MAL some look to be recollections so you might have to do the research~~

I watched the 1996 movie Independence Day before. I even at one point mixed it up with The Day After Tomorrow (facepalm). Took in Mars Attacks as well, but i am not sure what to make of it~~

@TiongHwi

Indeed. I'm usually going in blind too unless I already know the manga before the adaptation is announced.

I'm flattered. :)

I actually haven't watched the movie yet. I somehow missed it back then and never found the time or occasion to watch it. But I'm planning to watch it someday.

Guilty as charged. :)

Have you watched movies like Independence Day, Close Encounters of the Third Kind or E.T.?

TiongHwi | Aug 30, 7:36 AM
@TheBigGuy

a haha...P-chan took me a second take, but yes, that was fun in itself from the first shot in the tournament right till the end. Also helped that going in blind as a watcher (just like initially with SAO) really helps since without the LN it helps to keep expectations on adaptation non-existent and thus being more open on what that part of the show will bring.

...and, that in itself is still a great pick for a gif! you have my salute O7

I take it that you watched Kabaneri right till the end of the movie - as in, where they left off from the TV series?

So i also spotted an Aliens series aficionado ^^

TheBigGuy | Aug 29, 2:27 PM
@TiongHwi

That was fun too. Especially with P-chan.

Me neither. I've picked a GIF which embodies nostalgia or longing if you will.

Kabaneri fumbled a bit towards the end but it was pretty good. I really liked the design of the train.

I've played Alien Trilogy back then. I own both Aliens: Fireteam Elite and Alien: Isolation.

They do indeed.

TiongHwi | Aug 29, 12:24 AM
@TheBigGuy

Ohh...hey, Fatal Bullet reminds me of the GGO part of the franchise! ^^
hey that gif is...no, i did not watch the origin show for it, but i think i only have good things to say about SAO.

Hey that is great to know that you have already watched all those. Got to say that Kabaneri stays in the head as long as my memory can remember.
If you like those sci-fi things then I assume that Aliens games might also be in your games collection! not Dark Descent, but those FPS-shooting & walking types with aliens appearing out of vents. The developer(s) also do a great job of reproducing the environment and suspense
